Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf says he is optimistic he'll return from his sprained left ankle in time to play for Canada in the Olympics.

Getzlaf says an MRI exam Tuesday showed no significant damage to his ankle. He hopes to be back on the ice later this week.

Getzlaf sprained his ankle during the second period of Anaheim's 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night. X-rays during the game revealed no broken bones, but Getzlaf left the rink on crutches with his foot in a protective boot.

A significant injury to the playmaking center could damage Canada's hopes of contending for a gold medal. After scoring 57 points in 55 games for the Ducks, Getzlaf is expected to be a key Canadian contributor in his first Olympics.
