LAS VEGAS (AP) First, Jinxin Wang of China won a title. Then he won over his girlfriend.
Wang upset four-time Olympian Adrian Crisan of Romania in the men's final at the U.S. Open table tennis championships Saturday. Wang rallied past Crisan, a 2012 Olympic quarterfinalist, taking the last three games for a 5-11, 11-4, 4-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-5 victory.
Wang then proposed to Wen Ting Zha on court during the trophy presentation. She accepted.
Miyu Maeda of Japan won the women's singles and doubles titles. She is the first woman to win both crowns since China's Zhang Yining in 2002. The left-hander beat China's Ying Liu 11-8, 9-11, 11-1, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, becoming the third consecutive singles champion from Japan.
Earlier, in an all-Japanese women's doubles final, Maeda and Sakura Mori defeated Misaki Mori and Chihiro Hara 4-1. Hiromitsu Kasahara and Kohei Morimoto of Japan downed South Koreans Jun Hyung Ko and Jae Hun Lee 4-1 for the men's doubles title.
