Britain broke its own men's team sprint world record Thursday with a time of 42.747 seconds to reach the final against France.
The team of Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Chris Hoy lowered the mark of 42.914 that Germany had set on Dec. 1, 2011, at a World Cup meet in Cali, Colombia.
Hindes is the only newcomer to the team that won gold at the Beijing Games.
Earlier in the day, China set a new world record in the women's team sprint, and Britain set a new world record in qualifying for the men's team pursuit.
