Former NHL goalie and 1992 gold medal-winner Mikhail Shtalenkov, who went missing in Russia over the weekend, has been found safe, state-owned news agency RIA Novosti reported Wednesday.
Shtalenkov, 46, had last been heard from Sunday after landing in Moscow on a flight from the Russian city of Magnitogorsk, where he serves as the coach of Kontinental Hockey League team Metallurg.
But Shtalenkov's wife called police late Tuesday, saying she had managed to contact her missing husband via phone.
"The coach's spouse reported to the police officers liaising with her that she had managed to reach her husband by telephone," Moscow police said in a statement Tuesday, according to RIA Novosti.
No other details of Shtalenkov's brief disappearance have been released.
Shtalenkov was a member of the Unified Team that won hockey gold in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.
He played in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes and Florida Panthers from 1993 to 2000, serving primarily as a backup netminder.
