Stone scores twice, Senators beat Bruins 3-1

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) Goaltender Craig Anderson is showing he can handle a heavy workload.

Mark Stone scored twice, Anderson stopped 38 shots and the Ottawa Senators beat the Boston Bruins 3-1 Sunday.

It was the 15th time this season that Anderson has faced 35 or more shots, and he's 11-2-2 in those games.

''For me the way the game was, I thought we played a solid game and we were in the right spots at the right time,'' Anderson said. ''We allowed a lot of perimeter shots with some traffic, but guys did a great job blocking shots, boxing out and doing the little things that make a difference.''

''The big part of the reason why we've got any success is because of the goaltending that we've had and he's a big part of it,'' Senators coach Dave Cameron added.

Mika Zibanejad had the other goal and the Senators snapped a two-game losing streak.

Boston dropped its third straight. David Krejci had the Bruins' goal, and Tuukka Rask made 19 saves.

Krejci suffered an undisclosed injury and did not play the third period. There was no update on his status after the game.

The two teams meet again Tuesday night in Boston.

The Senators led 2-1 after 40 minutes despite being outshot 31-17. Anderson was perfect in the third period, and Stone sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 54 seconds remaining.

''I don't think that you have to second guess that the effort wasn't good enough,'' Bruins coach Claude Julien said.

''I think at the end of the day, they took advantage of their chances and made the most of it and we had ours, had lots of them. Their goalie played well for them tonight and we weren't able to bury ours and I think that's really the story of the game tonight. One shot away and we weren't able to get that.''

Boston tied the game at the 7-minute mark of the second after a video review showed Krejci's shot from in close had fully crossed the line.

Ottawa regained the lead late in the period when Zibanejad jumped on the rebound of Bobby Ryan's shot.

''It's tough for momentum (allowing a late goal) because you've got to come out the next period and start,'' Boston's Zach Trotman said. ''The only positive is you have 20 minutes to regroup in the locker room, but that's usually stuff you try to keep from happening.''

The Bruins played well early. At one point, Boston was outshooting the Senators 16-6, but Ottawa still opened the scoring.

The Senators took advantage of a power play when Stone, behind the net, banked a shot in off Dennis Seidenberg's skate in the final seconds of the period.

''I was looking to give it to Bobby (Ryan), but he wasn't even there so it was just a terrible play that ended up working,'' Stone said.

NOTES: Ottawa C Curtis Lazar missed the game due to an undisclosed injury and D Cody Ceci is week-to-week with upper-body injury. ... Boston D Torey Krug did not make the trip to Ottawa after he suffered an undisclosed injury in a 6-3 loss to Buffalo on Saturday night. ... D Colin Miller and RW Tyler Randell were healthy scratches for Boston.
