Stanley Cup-winning coach Bob Hartley has been appointed coach of the Zurich Lions.

The Swiss club says the 50-year-old Canadian has agreed to a two-year contract.

Hartley led the Colorado Avalanche to the Stanley Cup in 2001 during a four-year run in Denver. He also coached the Atlanta Thrashers from 2003-07.

At Zurich, Hartley replaces Bengt-Ake Gustafsson, who coached Sweden's gold medal-winning team at the 2006 Turin Olympics.
