Penguins superstar Crosby signs multi-year deal with Adidas
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby signed a new deal earlier this week.
No, the hockey phenom didn't renegotiate his current NHL contract. Crosby, in fact, followed the path of NFL stud Aaron Rodgers and NBA star James Harden by inking a multi-year deal with Adidas.
Financial terms were not disclosed on the six-year deal, but TSN's Darren Dreger reported that the two-time Hart Trophy winner would receive between $1-1.5 million per year.
Crosby is expected to serve as a consultant on apparel and equipment design. Last month, Adidas signed a seven-year deal with the NHL to replace Reebok as the league's uniform provider, beginning with the 2017-18 season.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with Adidas and have an influence on products that matter to hockey players and all athletes in their training and preparation," the 28-year-old Crosby said in a statement. "Adidas and I share the same drive to be the best at what we do. It’s an exciting time to be a part of the energy the brand has and the future of the sport."
