Penguins' Crosby ends career-worst point drought in style
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby ended a pair of lengthy droughts when he scored a power-play goal on Tuesday.
"It’s funny how things work sometimes," Crosby told the team's website after the Penguins skated to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. "That’s not the first time that’s happened. So you just try to stick with things and continue to do the things you normally do and trust that it will go in. ... It's not always easy when it goes awhile. But hopefully I can build off of this and put some more in."
Crosby's goal exactly 11 minutes into the first period snapped a career-worst six-game point drought dating back to last season. The two-time Hart Trophy winner's longest previous point skid was five games, spanning from Oct. 31-Nov. 10, 2009.
On Tuesday, Crosby accepted a feed from Evgeni Malkin and wired a shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle past the shoulder of Roberto Luongo. The two-time scoring champion's goal also ended Pittsburgh's 0-for-17 power-play drought to start the season.
Crosby wasn't done as he notched two assists and tied a career high with nine shots on goal. Prior to the contest, the 28-year-old had registered eight shots in 2015-16.
