Joffrey Lupul adds new hurt to lengthy injury list

Published Dec. 2, 2015 11:53 a.m. ET

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul has always struggled to stay healthy, and the injury bug bit him again as the Leafs announced Tuesday Lupul was placed on IR retroactive to Nov. 28 due to what the team previously identified as a nagging injury.

"He's been having the same problem here for a bit," coach Mike Babcock told reporters over the weekend. "He doesn't seem to be getting the power back that they thought, so we're just trying to monitor it the best we can."

Lupul has 11 points in 23 games this season for the Maple Leafs. The forward was limited to just 55 games last season thanks to a broken hand and a lower-body injury. Lupul has been limited to fewer than 70 games in every season since 2009-10.

The Leafs recalled forward Rich Clune Tuesday in Lupul's absence.
