Bruins' Marchand knocked out indefinitely with concussion

Published Oct. 12, 2015 12:28 p.m. ET

As if two losses weren't a bad enough way to start the season, the Boston Bruins received another blow on Sunday when the team announced forward Brad Marchand did indeed suffer a concussion after taking an elbow to the head in a collision with Montreal's Dale Weise on Saturday.

"Yeah, [Marchand] suffered a concussion," said coach Claude Julien to reporters Sunday. "We’re going about it with the League’s protocol with concussions and his return will be dictated by how quickly he recovers…so we have no timetable for him."

Marchand's absence hurts since the Bruins were relying on the veteran forward to provide some consistency on an offense which lost power forward Milan Lucic over the summer. Marchand had been playing on a line with Patrice Bergeron and Loui Eriksson, and the Bruins' website reported that Brett Connolly replaced Marchand on the line in practice Sunday.

Marchand and Connolly both have yet to record a point this season.
