NFL Rumors: Robbie Gould joining New York Giants?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The New York Giants are acting fast after recent developments in the Josh Brown case. They have asked kicker Robbie Gould to come over to London on a plane.

The New York Giants are moving on from kicker Josh Brown fast after more developments have surfaced from his domestic violence case. New York is playing the Los Angeles Rams in London this Sunday, so the Giants will need a new kicker fast.

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “Kicker Robbie Gould is flying to London to join the Giants.” Gould had been the longtime kicker for the Chicago Bears from 2005 to 2015.

It was odd that a proven NFL kicker like Gould had been a free agent this late into the 2016 NFL season. He is a career 85.4% field goal kicker with 276 career field goals with the Bears. Gould is the all-time leading scorer in Bears franchise history with 1,207 career points and 50-yard field goals with 23.

Gould should have staying power with the Giants for at least the rest of the season, but how will he perform in London on Sunday? It will be Gould’s first game of the season and it will be at Twickenham Stadium, home of the English national rugby team.

WIth the Rams and Giants being two evenly matched teams in the NFC, what if this game comes down to a Giants’ field goal? Will Gould be solid gold and potentially kick a game-winning field goal for New York in London?

It was a wise move for the Giants to move on from Brown, but this team has been chock full of distractions this season. Having to fly over a new kicker 72 hours before kickoff in London isn’t ideal.
