Mark Ingram plans on display of unity for Monday Night Football

No one on the New Orleans Saints team has made any sort of demonstration comparable to what those supporting Colin Kaepernick have made. That may change on Monday Night Football.
In a tweet from Mark Ingram:
There are amazing police out here that handle things the right way! It’s unfortunate they get bad rep for bad ones https://t.co/1ekDcIBtmF
— Mark Ingram II (@MarkIngram22) September 21, 2016
In an interview with local media following a Saints practice, Ingram stated,
“We’re all humans and we all need to unify and become one,” Ingram said. “That’s what makes our country so beautiful is that we can come here, we can be free and we just need that equality among everybody.”
Ingram has expressed that he is working with other Saints team members to make some sort of display of unity during the National Anthem on Monday Night Football prior to the team facing off against the Atlanta Falcons.

Worth noting is that Ingram comes off as being very measured and thoughtful in his discussion on this matter. While there has been heated rhetoric for and against on the issue since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick chose to take a knee during the preseason, Ingram just seems determined to do something that will have a positive effect.
It’s rare in today’s political climate to see calm discourse. Certainly in a city like New Orleans and especially on the 10th anniversary of the reopening of the Superdome following Hurricane Katrina, issues of racial injustice should be at the forefront.
Somewhere between racial invective and violent protest, America could certainly use more voices like Ingram. It remains to be seen what will happen on Monday night but it’s refreshing to see his calm in the storm surrounding this issue.
