Jerry Jones declares the Greg Hardy era in Dallas officially over

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters Friday that the team will not re-sign defensive end Greg Hardy this offseason.

Hardy, 27, had six sacks and 35 tackles in 12 games last season -- his first with the Cowboys after spending the first five years of his career with the Carolina Panthers. However, he had just two sacks in his final eight games in 2015, had a confrontation with the Cowboys special teams coach in a loss to the New York Giants and was late for team meetings.

Hardy was suspended for the first four games last season -- that suspension was reduced on appeal from the original 10-game ban -- because of a domestic violence incident that occurred in May 2014. That incident resulted in him playing in only one game for the Panthers in 2014; Carolina listed him as inactive in Week 2 and then Hardy spent the rest of the season on the commissioner's exempt list.

He had his best season in 2013 when he registered a career-high 15 sacks and was named to the Pro Bowl.

That Dallas would part ways with Hardy is significant because fellow pass rushers Randy Gregory and Demarcus Lawrence are facing four-game suspensions to start next season. And the team hasn't added a pass rusher through the first three rounds of the NFL Draft this week.
