Indy players pack up, still uncertain about Pagano's status

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) As Indianapolis Colts players cleaned out lockers Monday afternoon, they were still lobbying team owner Jim Irsay to keep coach Chuck Pagano.

The 55-year-old coach is not expected to return to Indy next season with his contract set to expire.

Pagano said Sunday he planned to meet with Irsay on Monday, but players said that meeting had not taken place when Pagano addressed the team in the early afternoon.

Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson said the lack of an announcement meant players remained hopeful Pagano would return.

In four seasons with Indy, Pagano is 41-23 with three playoff appearances, three playoff wins, two division titles and last year's appearance in the AFC championship game.

But the Colts (8-8), a trendy preseason Super Bowl pick, missed the playoffs this season.
