Former Bills DE Merriman: Rex Ryan took a 'direct shot' at Jets

When Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills shocked the world by claiming IK Enemkpali off waivers after he broke Geno Smith's jaw, some immediately thought Ryan was taking a shot at his former team. He coached Enemkpali last season and knows the player well, but he also wasn't happy about the way things went down between he and the Jets.

At least one former player believes the conspiracy that Ryan was taking a shot at his former team, and that player is former Bills defensive end Shawne Merriman. TMZ Sports caught up with Merriman at LAX where he was asked about his thoughts on Ryan and the Bills signing Enemkpali.

"I played up there in Buffalo so I know what the mentality up there is, and what Rex is trying to do," Merriman said. "And I think it was a straight shot at them. 'We're gonna impose some violence on you guys for two times a season,' so I think it was a direct shot."

We'll never know whether or not Ryan added Enemkpali to take a shot at his former team, but time will tell if the linebacker makes an impact with his new team. If he fails to do so, he could find himself without a job in the NFL once again.
