Eagles await word on Foles' broken collarbone; Ryans lost for season

Published Nov. 2, 2014 11:33 p.m. ET

The Eagles finished the first half with a 6-2 record and sit just one game behind the Cardinals for best record in the NFC after Sunday's 31-21 victory over the Texans.

But rest assured, team headquarters in Philadelphia will be one of the most tense places in the NFL come Monday, as the team will await final word on injuries to two key starters, quarterback Nick Foles and linebacker DeMeco Ryans.

Foles left the victory at Houston late in the first quarter Sunday, leaving for the locker room after a sack by Whitney Mercilus, never to return to the game. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly refused to divulge much more on Foles after the game, saying only, "He's in a sling right now, and that's all I got."

But FOX Sports 1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo confirmed through sources Sunday night that Foles suffered a full break of his collarbone and that a timetable for his return will not be known until tests are run Monday.

The news is even worse on Ryans:

But it's not all bad news for the Eagles. For the glass-half-full crowd, they have an experienced backup in Mark Sanchez, who threw for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns (along with a pair of interceptions) after taking over for Foles. And not coincidentally, All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy had his second 100-yard rushing of the game of the season behind Sanchez, as well.

What's more, the Dallas Cowboys, themselves without their starting QB as Tony Romo missed Sunday's game against the Cardinals with a back injury, were unable to overcome the loss and went down to those Cardinals. They get an extra day of rest before hosting Carolina next Monday night, and still have a few weeks before those key games against 6-3 Dallas in late November and mid-December.
