After starting the first three preseason games for the Indianapolis Colts, third-year player Khaled Holmes appeared to be the favorite to win the team's starting center job. On Monday, head coach Chuck Pagano removed any doubt, officially giving the job to Holmes.

“Khaled’s our starting center,’’ Pagano said, per Mike Chappell of Indy Sports Central.

Holmes, a fourth-round pick in 2013, started each of the team's three exhibition games to date, but was sharing first-team snaps with Jonotthan Harrison.

“Jon and I have had great competition,’’ Holmes said. “I’ve always stayed confident in my ability and what I bring to the table.

“But it’s great to have that vote of confidence going into the last preseason game and the regular season.’’

The 25-year-old Holmes began training camp last season as the starter before suffering an ankle injury in the preseason opener. He was inactive for the Colts' first 11 games, before taking over for the final two games of the regular season and the team's three playoff contests.
