CJ Spiller out for preseason after having knee scoped
Spiller’s surgery is described as a “clean up” that will cause him to sit out the rest of the preseason. The explosive back should be ready to roll in Week 1 when the Saints travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals in their season opener.
The Saints signed Spiller during the free agency period to a four-year, $18 million contract. He currently sits behind running backs Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson on the team’s depth chart, though in Sean Payton’s offense, he may be utilized more than the depth chart indicates thanks to his exceptional abilities as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.
As for the remainder of the preseason, the Saints are in good hands. They are loaded at running back depth beyond Ingram and Robinson. Let’s just hope for the Saints' sake that Spiller’s knee surgery is as minor of an issue as the team is letting on.
