Browns player surprises local teen as prom date

Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Cameron Erving surprised a Cleveland-area teen on Saturday, when he showed up at her house to take her to prom.

Elna Wright, a 17-year-old Elyria High School student, has a rare progressive disorder called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. She originally planned to attend the dance with her boyfriend, who passed away last fall, according to FOX 8 Cleveland. But as prom approached, and Wright did not have a date, her parents reached out to the Browns -- Elna's favorite team -- in hopes of making her prom night a memorable occasion.

Erving offered to be Wright's date and pulled out all of the stops to make it a special evening.

"I was contacted by someone with the team and I just jumped at the chance," Erving told the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. "It all sort of came together Friday. I rented a limo, got a tux, the whole thing."

"I just wanted to come here for her," Erving said via FOX 8. "Just being able to make her smile, that's the biggest thing. Everybody deserves happiness, so anything I can do to make this night as special as possible."

Erving picked up Wright in a limo bus from her home and accompanied her to a nearby park to take photos before arriving at the prom venue.

"She's on top of the world right now," Elna's dad, Ebony Wright, said. "This means everything."

As noted by FOX 8, Wright was crowned homecoming queen last fall and will graduate next month.
