Bills WR Sammy Watkins on Week 1 status: 'I'm ready to go'

When the Buffalo Bills take the field against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in the regular season opener, they hope to have their playmaking wide receiver Sammy Watkins out there. He's been dealing with a glute injury that sidelined him for most of the preseason and part of training camp, but he's been on track to play in Week 1.

According to Watkins, himself, he'll be ready to go against the Colts.

"I think I'm ready to play," Watkins said via the team's official website. "For the most part it's just about getting mentally and physically prepared for this game and enduring some physical battles. So I think I'm in shape. I'm ready to go.

"The coaches and staff have done a good job of just getting me in shape and now it's just about really grinding and having fun playing through the whole game."

Given the Bills' rash of injuries during training camp, getting Watkins back and healthy is a big step. He'll likely be Tyrod Taylor's favorite target for as long as he's the starter and has the talent to be a top receiver in the NFL.

Robert Woods and Percy Harvin are also dealing with injuries, although they're expected to join Watkins on the field against the Colts. Now the Bills just need LeSean McCoy to get healthy and their offense will have the potential to be dangerous.
