Bills sign DL Red Bryant, RB Cierre Wood in wake of latest injuries

The Buffalo Bills have sustained a seemingly endless number of injuries this offseason, leaving them depleted on the depth chart at several positions. Defensive line and running back are two of those positions, leading the Bills to sign two players in wake of the latest injuries.

Following news that LeSean McCoy has a strained hamstring, the Bills have signed running back Cierre Wood. The same goes for defensive lineman Red Bryant, who was signed Wednesday to help replace defensive end Jairus Wynn.

To make room for Bryant and Wood, the Bills released tight end Chris Manhertz and cornerback Rod Sweeting.

McCoy isn't expected to miss any time in the regular season as he plans to be back for Week 1, but the Bills need support at running back until he returns. Along with McCoy, the Bills' other top-four running backs are also injured.

Wood came into the league as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2013 out of Notre Dame, but never saw the field much. In two seasons in the league, Wood has just three carries for nine yards.

As for Bryant, he's much more established in the NFL with seven seasons under his belt. Most recently, Bryant played for the Jaguars in 2014, recording 23 tackles and one sack. Previously, he played six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, winning Super Bowl 48 in 2014.

Wood in particular should see the field often in the team's preseason game Thursday night, as the Bills only have three healthy running backs on the roster.
