Just two days after he was waived by the Brooklyn Nets, Yogi Ferrell rejoined the Nets’ D-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets. Ferrell played for Long Island prior to joining the Nets on November 9.

The Brooklyn Nets announced Saturday that Yogi Ferrell rejoined their D-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets. Ferrell was available for tonight’s L.I. Nets’ game against the Maine Red Claws.

Ferrell began the season playing for Long Island, after being waived following the Nets’ preseason. One week after Jeremy Lin went down with a hamstring injury, Ferrell was brought back to Brooklyn.

After signing with the Nets on November 9, Ferrell became the first GATORADE Call-Up in Long Island Nets history. He played 10 games for Brooklyn and averaged 5.4 points. 1.7 assists, and 1.2 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per game.

During his time in Brooklyn, Ferrell also played two games on assignment for the L.I. Nets. In these two games, he posted 11 points, six assists, and two rebounds in 25.2 minutes per contest.

Despite being the only true point guard on the roster aside from Lin, the former Indiana Hoosier never started for Brooklyn. The Nets have instead turned to fellow rookie Isaiah Whitehead for the starting role in Lin’s absence.

Just hours after Ferrell was waived on Thursday, the Nets signed another D-League player, Spencer Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie, like Ferrell, plays solely at the point guard position. This move indicates that Brooklyn is moving in another direction to fill the void at the one, as the team still awaits Lin’s return.

As the Nets continue to use the D-League for player development, this does not necessarily mean it’s the end of Ferrell’s NBA journey. He was called up once, and the Nets could very well bring him up again while monitoring their players in Long Island.
