Rockets officially sign Marcus Thornton

Lost in all the hype surrounding the Ty Lawson trade and key decisions to re-sign Corey Brewer, Patrick Beverley and K.J. McDaniels is Houston's one-year, veteran's minimum deal with Marcus Thornton.

This is the exact type of veteran the Rockets needed last year. Someone who can come off the bench and score without James Harden holding their hand. Here's more on Thornton's official signing with Houston, per the Houston Chronicle:

"The Rockets on Friday officially signed shooting guard Marcus Thornton to a one-year, veteran minimum contract worth $1.2 million. Thornton had agreed to a deal July 12, saying he wanted a chance to play the Rockets’ up-tempo style and with a team that could be considered a contender. Thornton, 28, has averaged 12.7 points per game in six NBA seasons on 42.9 percent shooting, making 36.2 percent of his 3-pointers. He made 40.6 percent of his 3s with Boston and Phoenix last season."

Thornton can space the floor and get his own shot off whenever he needs to. He'll be perfect in Houston's uptempo system, and has Sixth Man of the Year potential.
