White on Daytona trucks pole
Jason White took the pole position Thursday for the Camping World Truck series race Friday night at Daytona International Speedway.
White turned a lap at 177.525 mph in SS Green Light Racing's No. 23 Ford to win his first series pole. Sprint Cup regular Elliott Sadler was second, followed by Ricky Carmichael, four-time series champion Ron Hornaday Jr. and Tyler Malsam.
Dillon, the grandson of NASCAR team owner Richard Childress, is driving a black truck bearing the No. 3, the number Dale Earnhardt drove for Childress.
Sprint Cup star Kyle Busch was 16th in his first outing for his own team. A seven-time winner last year for Billy Ballew, Busch also is fielding Malsam's Toyota.
Johnny Benson was ninth in Danny Gill's No. 95 Ford. After winning the 2008 series title, Benson lost his ride last season when Red Horse Racing failed to find sponsorship, then was injured in June in a Supermodified event in Michigan.
Todd Bodine, the race winner the last two years, qualified 15th.
