Trucks: Reddick Holds Off Hemric to Win at Las Vegas

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

In race two of the Round of 8 for the Truck Series Chase, it was a non-chaser in Tyler Reddick paying a visit to victory lane in Sin City on Saturday night.

In the Chase for a championship, the pressure really ratchets up in the second race of round one. Chances to move forward are won and lost on track, and sometimes a driver can ever play spoiler to the field. That’s exactly what happened on Saturday night in Las Vegas, where Tyler Reddick upset the Chase field for a victory.

If you saw how Reddick was racing, it was certainly no upset with the performance he put on track. The driver for Brad Keselowski Racing led 70 of the 146 laps in the DC Solar 350, by far the best in the field. He pulled away from Cole Custer on the final restart of the night, and held off teammate Daniel Hemric to win.

Coming home in third on the night was Custer, followed by Ben Kennedy and William Byron rounding out the top five. All the Chase drivers would finish in the top nine on the night, except John Hunter Nemechek in sixteenth.

Of course, the win would be a bit bittersweet for Reddick and BKR, as Hemric could have been locked into the Round of 6 with a win in Sin City. Instead, he and John Hunter Nemechek enter the final race of the Round of 8 in the cut-off spots, fifteen points out of moving on. While William Byron has a secure spot moving forward, the other seven will hope to survive and advance at the Chase’s biggest wild card.
