NASCAR: Dover Weather Update

Weather has already impacted the NASCAR weekend in Dover as NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying was cancelled on Friday. What does the rest of the weekend look like?

The good news for NASCAR fans is that the weather around Dover looks as though it will be good to go come Sunday afternoon. That means that NASCAR will hopefully not have an issue getting the full NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in as Dover does not have lights and long delays would not be good on Sunday. Additionally, Dover is the last race in the opening round of the 2016 NASCAR Chase and nobody wants there to be a potential of the race not running through to its completion.

While Sunday looks promising, Saturday in Dover is another story.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series is scheduled to run in Dover on Saturday at 3:00 PM ET and there is some question as to whether or not that will happen. The current forecast on Saturday calls for a 40 percent chance of rain (according to The Weather Channel) around 2:00 PM ET with thunderstorms are more rain moving into the area around 7:00 PM ET.

If the NASCAR XFINITY Series race starts on time, and the rain doesn’t come early, they should not have an issue getting the race in. Should the 2:00 PM precipitation delay things, then the race might become a question mark depending on when the next batch of showers hits the track.

The showers on Saturday night are expected to move on in the early morning hours on Sunday with another chance of rain late in the morning. After that all looks to be clear for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race but weather is unpredictable and that forecast could always change between now and then.

The lack of lights at Dover means the rain could push the race on Sunday to Monday should the forecast take a turn for the worse, which we are hoping will not happen. Be sure to follow along with us on Twitter for the latest Dover weather updates.
