Leavine Family Racing returns to shop with new fire security system
Leavine Family Racing has resumed operations at its Concord, North Carolina race shop following a fire that caused significant damage to the 20,000-square foot facility in early May.
In an effort to prevent future incidents, the single-car NASCAR Sprint Cup Series organization has announced a partnership with Monitronics Security, one of the nation's largest home security alarm monitoring companies.
Monitronics will outfit the refurbished Leavine facility with a new, state-of-the-art security and fire monitoring system. In addition, Monitronics will be an associate sponsor on LFR driver Michael McDowell's No. 95 Ford Fusion in races at Chicago, Charlotte and Texas later this year.
Four race cars were destroyed in the fire at the LFR shop along with a 3,000 square-foot room full of parts and equipment. No one was injured in the blaze, and the team's primary cars were located in another part of the race shop, allowing McDowell to continue to race.
The team worked out of an unoccupied shop space at Team Penske while its shop was being restored.
"We are thrilled that Monitronics has offered to help us as we move back in and continue operations in our shop in Concord," said team owner Bob Leavine. "The fire was certainly a setback for our team, but we saw significant support from the NASCAR community -- including our partners and fans. This partnership with Monitronics is another example of that support to help us continue operations with a state-of-the-art security and fire monitoring system."
