De Silvestro out for IndyCar race

Published Jun. 24, 2011 4:44 p.m. ET

Simona De Silvestro has been ruled out of Saturday's IndyCar race in Iowa because of post-concussion symptoms related to a qualifying crash last week.

De Silvestro, who burned both her hands during a practice crash prior to the Indianapolis 500, was taken to the hospital Saturday night after crashing in Milwaukee. She was cleared to drive by IndyCar officials Sunday morning, but she left for the care center just 11 laps into the race.

IndyCar said Friday that De Silvestro still exhibited symptoms during a medical evaluation.

De Silvestro, who drives the No. 78 car for HVM Racing, is 18th in the IndyCar points standings. HVM Racing won't replace De Silvestro for Saturday's race.
