Video tribute to F1 legend Gilles Villeneuve will give you goosebumps

May 8, 2016

On paper, Gilles Villeneuve was never an F1 champion.

In his six years in Formula One, he won six races and finished runner-up in the 1979 championship to his Ferrari teammate Jody Scheckter. His son Jacques Villeneuve won the World Championship in 1997, 15 years after Gilles was killed in a crash at Zolder on May 8, 1982.

In his all-too-short career, however, Gilles Villeneuve helped create many F1 highlights that still never fail to take our breath away.

If you love F1 racing from the days gone by, you should definitely check out Antti Kalhola’s YouTube channel. On May 8, 2016, 34 years to the day from Villeneuve’s tragic death, “Antti” created a fitting tribute to one of F1’s most exciting drivers ever.

Perhaps on paper, Gilles Villeneuve was never an F1 champion, but four minutes of the video above should show you why, to the fans, he most definitely was.
