The first day of IndyCar practice was interrupted when the track surface got kicked up in Turn 3.

The Verizon IndyCar series is in St. Petersburg, Florida, this weekend for the season-opening Grand Prix of St. Pete, which will take place Sunday afternoon.

Friday marked the first day of practice for the 22-car field, with Simon Pagenaud topping the morning session.

Team Penske driver Will Power got into the wall in the morning session, while the red flag flew in the afternoon session due to aforementioned issues with the track surface. Jack Hawksworth was the fastest car on track in the first 20 minutes before the red flag. The session was restarted.

The damage seemed to occur due to the IndyCar machines bottoming out through the corner, and fortunately was caught early and didn't take much more than 20 minutes to repair.
