Tony Kanaan tops Carb Day in final practice for Indianapolis 500
Tony Kanaan topped the times on Carb Day in the final practice session ahead of Sunday’s 100th Indianapolis 500.
The Brazilian, racing for Chip Ganassi Racing, will start in 18th position for Sunday’s 500-mile race, but he was able to turn a lap at 226.280 mph in race trim during Sunday’s one-hour session.
Caution periods interrupted the session twice, the first time for oil on course from a vintage car race that had taken place earlier, and the second for a spin by Pippa Mann who ended up in the Turn 4 wall. Mann was OK and will be able to retain her 25th-place starting position, but her car may not be handling the same when the green flag drops.
The session was busier than usual, with many cars out on track testing the draft one final time. Traditionally, team just use Carb Day to simply fine-tune their cars, while trying to avoid incidents such as the one that happened to Mann.
