Three riders hospitalized, one in coma, after bike races in Indonesia
On Sunday, Muhammad Zamri Baba, 31, was involved in an accident during the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) 2015 Supersports 600cc Race 1 at the Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia. On Monday, the FIM released a statement saying that Baba was in a coma and in critical condition.
On Tuesday, the MuSASHi Boon Siew Honda team, which Baba races for, released a statement saying that his condition was stable and that his family had flown to be with him and had been briefed on his condition.
According to the FIM’s statement, Baba had fallen into a gravel trap during the race when another rider crashed behind him and into Baba. Baba was immediately taken to the Pertamedika Sentul City Hospital 10 minutes down the road. It has been reported that, in addition to head injuries, Baba has also sustained injuries to his liver and chest areas.
The Malaysian Digest reports that Baba has since been transferred to Siloam Karawaci Hospital.
During the Supersports Race 2 at the same circuit later on, another incident occurred as Indonesian rider M. Fadli Immammuddin won the race and began celebrating, only to be ran into by Jakkrit Sawangswat of Thailand.
Both riders were immediately taken to the hospital with multiple leg injuries, although both are in stable condition.
