Three Best in Show winners to return to Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance
As Spring creeps up on us… albeit very slowly this year it seems, various locations around the country and gearing up to host their annual outdoor car shows.
With up to 250 collector cars and motorcycles expected, the fairways at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C., are no exception.
The fourth annual Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance will return to the resort on Saturday, April 30.
Among the cars on display will be the first three Best in Show award winners from the event:
2013 winner: 1938 Steyr 220 Glaser Roadster
- Owned by Peter Boyle of Pennsylvania, the 2013 Best in Show winner is only one of six of its kind ever made.
2014 winner: A 1931 Cadillac 452A
- Owned by 93-year-old Charles Gillet of Maryland, the 2014 Best in Show winner is just one of 200 of its kind ever made; yet only about a dozen are still known to exist.
2015 winner: 1919 Pierce-Arrow Model 66 A-4 Tourer
- Owned by Robert S. “Bob” Jepson Jr. of Georgia, last year’s bright purple Best in Show winner is 7 feet tall and weighs 7,000 lbs. It was customized for Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, a silent movie actor.
“We’re humbled to have our first three champions coming back to this event, which has become very special to them, in order to find out who will join their exclusive club,” said Pinehurst Concours president Jay Howard. “By Saturday afternoon, we will have a very special Concours Foursome.”
Pinehurt Concours chief judge Nigel Matthews, having judged various concours all over the world, agreed. “What a sight it will be,” Matthews added. “I can't think of another event that has managed to bring all of the winners together since its inception.”
