Pirelli offers first look at wider F1 tires for 2017
Pirelli has unveiled the first prototype examples of its wider 2017 F1 tires.
Fitted to a Pirelli show car, the tires have generated a favorable response from both F1 insiders and the public, as they will clearly help to fulfil the objective of making the cars look more aggressive next season.
The front tire will increase in width from 245mm to 305mm (9.6 inches to 12 inches), and the rear from 325mm to 405mm (12.8 inches to 15.9 inches), representing a change of 25 percent. The official new sizes for slick tires will be 305/670-13 at the front and 405/670-13 at the rear, with wheel rim diameter remaining unchanged at 13 inches. The tires will add to the overall car weight, with an increase of 1kg (2.2 lbs.) at the front and 1.5kgs (3.3 lbs.) at the rear.
Testing of the new tires will commence in August, using modified 2015 cars.
