Updated Jun. 29, 2022 2:08 p.m. ET

NHRA is about the change the way drag racing is run.

The league announced its inaugural NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, which will run from March 25-28 at the zMAX Dragway near Charlotte,N.C.

And yes, you read that right. Four-Wide Nationals.

For the first time in NHRA history, qualifying andeliminations will run four-wide instead of two cars at a time.

The event isn't unique to the track. The zMAX Dragway hostedan exhibition on the four-wide track with NHRA cars last year. Butthis will be the first official four-wide running for NHRA.

"We had so much positive feedback from our fans and driversafter the four-lane exhibition last September that we werecomfortable adding this unique twist to an official NHRA nationalevent," NHRA President Tom Compton said in a press release.
