Juan Pablo Montoya will not defend his Indianapolis 500 crown.
The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner had not had a great week at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, having qualified in 17th position.
On Lap 64 of the race, Montoya was running in the middle of the field when his car snapped around going through Turn 2. His Team Penske car then hit the outside wall before coming to a rest in the infield grass.
Montoya was OK, but it is the first time that he will have failed to finish in the top 5 in his four attempts at the Indianapolis 500.
