WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) Josef Newgarden had another impressive run around the Milwaukee Mile on Sunday, following fast practice times over the weekend with the top qualifying run to claim his first career IndyCar series pole.
Newgarden posted an average lap of 170.223 mph. The 24-year-old driver also had the best combined time over two practices.
The 250-lap race at the Mile was later Sunday. There was a condensed schedule this year, with the first practice run on Saturday evening and the rest of the packed schedule on Sunday.
Ryan Briscoe was second behind Newgarden, and Sage Karam was third.
