IndyCar to hold memorial for Wheldon
IndyCar announced Tuesday that it will hold a public memorial for British driver Dan Wheldon this Sunday at Conseco Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.
Wheldon, 33, died last Sunday after succumbing to his injuries from a horrific 15-car crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
IndyCar also announced Tuesday that it would be calling on Formula 1's governing body FIA, as well as the Automobile Competition Committee of the United States, to assist with an investigation into the crash.
"The safety of our drivers, their crews, IndyCar staff, racetrack staff and spectators is always our paramount concern," IndyCar said in a statement.
The series said it hoped to have preliminary findings within several weeks.
Wheldon, a two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, is survived by his wife and two sons.
