Ford shows off its most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever
The new Mustang Shelby GT350 has some powerful Voodoo under the hood.
Ford has confirmed that the 5.2-liter V8 in its highest performance pony car will be rated at 526-horsepower and 439 lb-ft of torque when it goes on sale later this year.
That makes the motor, which was nicknamed Voodoo during its development, the most powerful naturally aspirated engine Ford has ever created. It features an exotic, racing-style flat-plane-crankshaft for improved airflow and an 8,250 rpm redline.
Video of it in action released by Ford indicates it's a real screamer. It will be matched exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission in the GT350 and GT350R, which comes with a hardcore track-tuned suspension and body kit.
Prices are expected to start at $49,995 and $65,620, respectively. Only 100 GT350s and 37 GT350Rs will be produced for the 2015 model year as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the first Shelby Mustang before full production begins for 2016.
