Bud Howell, 49, was killed last Sunday after being struck by a truck during a ‘Spectator Race’ at Bronson Speedway in Archer, Fla.
The truck lost control during the race and spun into the infield where it hit Howell. There is reportedly an ongoing investigation with regards to the incident, though Gainesville.com reports that there was no foul play.
Howell was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Bronson Speedway owners Ann and Chris Young, along with the entire staff are in mourning today,” read a statement on the speedway’s Facebook page Monday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Flagman Bud Howell, his family, friends and all who love him.”
The speedway is planning a memorial in Howell’s honor.
