20-year-old Joe Ryan Osborne of Kannapolis was arrested Saturday night by the Winston-Salem Police Department after an altercation in the pits at the quarter-mile Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Osborne, a full-time driver of the No. 27 car in the Modified Division, had been involved in an incident with fellow driver James Civali during the race. Osborne was allegedly approached by crew members from the Civali’s team in the pits following the race.

Osborne then did a donut with his car in the middle of the crowd, reportedly striking several individuals with his car.

Osborne was initially charged with counts of assault with a deadly weapon, but - according to speed51 - was released after explaining that his actions were as a result of trying to break away from others attacking him in his car. Osborne will appear in court next month.
