FC Dallas 0, Real Salt Lake 3
Javier Morales scored a goal and set up Ned Grabavoy and Olmes Garcia to help Real Salt Lake beat FC Dallas 3-0 Saturday night for the franchise's first win in the state of Texas.
''I just think it was an important result against a very good team in their stadium,'' said Jason Kreis, a former Dallas Burn star who played his final three years for Salt Lake before becoming its coach in 2007. ''Right now, we're in first place, they're in second and I think that's where the importance lies. It's good, because I've never won a game here. Even when I was playing, we'd come back and we'd get beaten, so it feels good.''
At 11-5-4 Real Salt Lake, is unbeaten in its last eight games. Josh Saunders and Jeff Attinella made three saves each for RSL with Nick Rimando away on national team duty. Saunders had to leave in the 50th minute due to a knee injury, and Attinella made his MLS debut.
New York Red Bulls 4, Montreal Impact 0
Thierry Henry had a goal and two assists to give the New York Red Bulls a 4-0 victory over the Montreal Impact on Saturday.
Eric Alexander, Tim Cahill and Peguy Luyindula also scored for the Red Bulls (9-7-4, 31 points), who climbed into a first-place tie with the Impact (9-5-4, 31 points) in the MLS' Eastern Conference.
Red Bulls coach Mike Petke doesn't believe that there are such things as big games in July.
''We sit on top of the conference right now and that's nice, but it means absolutely nothing,'' Petke said. ''This is such a streaky league that anything can happen from here on. It's just the way the league is built. It's an absolute roller coaster.''
Portland Timbers 2, LA Galaxy 1
Andrew Jean-Baptiste had been planning a celebration for just this kind of moment.
The young Portland defender doffed his shirt after his goal in stoppage time gave the Portland Timbers a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night.
''Game winner. Nice body. Why not?'' Jean-Baptiste joked.
His header got past Los Angeles goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini in the 94th minute after Ryan Johnson had evened the score at 1-all in the 27th minute. It was Jean-Baptiste's first goal of the season.
With the victory, Portland moved into second place in the Western Conference behind Real Salt Lake.
New England Revolution 1, Houston Dynamo 2
Midfielder Adam Moffatt scored two second-half goals and the Houston Dynamo earned a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday.
Moffatt scored his first goal in the 49th minute, a 25-yard left-footed drive from atop the penalty box area after New England was unable to successfully clear a corner kick taken by the Dynamo's Andrew Driver.
Moffatt regained the lead for Houston (8-6-5) in the 79th minute, a right-footed shot atop the penalty box area, which banged off the right post and off New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth into the net.
Houston had won just one of its previous eight matches (1-4-3), scoring just three goals over that span, including a scoreless streak of 388 minutes over four matches.
Sporting KC 3, Toronto 0
Soony Saad scored twice, his first goals in almost two years, and Sporting Kansas City moved into first place in the Eastern Conference with a 3-0 victory over shorthanded Toronto FC on Saturday night.
Claudio Bieler also scored for Sporting (9-5-6), which ran its unbeaten streak to five. Toronto (2-9-7), which played a man down after Reggie Lambe was given a straight red card in the 56th minute, is winless in four.
San Jose Earthquakes 1, Seattle Sounders 0
Walter Martinez scored his first MLS goal and the San Jose Earthquakes made it hold up for a 1-0 win against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.
Martinez, a 31-year-old midfielder who joined San Jose prior to this season, broke open a scoreless match in the 48th minute. The former Honduran international collected a ball from teammate Steven Lenhart, cut inside Seattle defender DeAndre Yedlin and fired from 12 yards.
Sounders emergency goalkeeper Andrew Weber, who came on at halftime for injured starter Michael Gspurning, could not keep the ball from curling inside the far post.
Philadelphia Union 3, Chivas USA 1
Michael Farfan scored a free kick in the box in the 82nd minute, helping the Philadelphia Union beat Chivas USA 3-1 in rainy and wet conditions on Friday night.
Brian Carroll and Conor Casey also scored, and Sebastien Le Toux added two assists to take over the league lead with nine as the Union improved to 8-6-6.
Jose Correa scored for Chivas USA (3-11-5), which remained in last place in the Western Conference.
