David Beckham set up the winning goal as the Los Angeles Galaxy moved a step closer to securing Major League Soccer's Supporters' Shield by beating the Philadelphia Union 1-0 on Thursday.
In the 27th minute, Beckham lofted a perfect corner for Edson Buddle to head home, notching his MLS-leading 16th goal of the season.
With two regular-season games to play, the Galaxy leads the overall MLS standings with 56 points - five points in front of Real Salt Lake, which has a game in hand.
The team with the best record at the end of the regular season get the Supporters' Shield, and guaranteed entry to the next CONCACAF Champions League.
Before the corner, a large group of Philadelphia supporters was booing Beckham. Following the goal, Beckham smiled and clapped his hands toward the crowd.
This was just the fifth game this season for England's former captain, who has been recovering from a torn left Achilles' tendon injury.
Despite a PPL Park-record crowd of 18,779, the Union struggled and had just one shot in the first half.
