MF, D Carey Talley retires after 13 MLS seasons

Carey Talley has retired after 13 seasons in Major League Soccer.

The defender and midfielder announced his retirement Wednesday, months after finishing his final season with the New York Red Bulls.

The University of North Carolina product started his career with D.C. United and was a member of their 1999 MLS Cup team. He also played with Kansas City, FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake and Chivas USA. He had 20 goals and 28 assists in 315 regular-season matches, making 262 starts. His 315 appearances rank eighth in MLS history.

The Red Bulls acquired Talley on Sept. 15 for a second-round pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
