The Crew acquired forward Federico Higuain on Friday from Argentina's Primera Division.

Higuain, who played for Club Atletico Colon, is the third designated player in Columbus history. The 27-year-old forward joins the Crew after scoring 10 goals across his last 62 appearances in the Primera.

''Federico is a talented, technical, speedy and attacking player who will add another dimension to our offense,'' Crew general manager Mark McCullers said.

Higuain, a native of Capital Federal, Argentina, began his career with River Plate in 2003, at the age of 18.

''We had our eye on Higuain for quite some time,'' Crew coach Robert Warzycha said. ''He's a fast forward who played successfully in a very good league. He's very opportunistic and a good finisher.''

Columbus is 7-7-4 this season, good for sixth place in the MLS Eastern Conference.
