Juan Pablo Angel scored in the 83rd minute to rally Chivas USA to a 1-1 tie with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night.

Tristan Bowen took possession of the ball along the sideline and found Angel alone behind the Colorado defense. Angel easily beat Matt Pickens, denying the Colorado goalkeeper his seventh shutout of the season. Pickens is the franchise's all-time leader in shutouts (28) and wins (40).

''I can't really remember how I got the ball,'' Bowen said. ''I focused on making the cross and Juan Pablo did the rest by getting into the box and creating enough space for me to get him a cross.''

Chivas USA (7-9-6) had only two shots on goal the entire game, both late in the game. The Goats have scored only 15 goals all season.

''We had a tough time possessing the ball out of the box tonight and it was a bit tough to find ourselves an offensive play,'' Bowen said. ''Once we did, it shows you soccer is a game where you only need one opportunity and we put it into the back of the net when we got it.''

Brian Mullan scored in the 19th minute for Colorado (8-15-2), which has not lost in its last seven meetings (5-0-2) against Chivas USA. Since shutting out Chivas 4-0 on April 28, the Rapids are 5-11-2.

Colorado played without leading-scorer Jaime Castrillon, who was serving a yellow card suspension.

''It looked like something I've seen before,'' said Colorado coach Oscar Pareja of his team's frequent late game ties and losses. ''We have so many chances to score and then they (Chivas USA) score at the end.''

Omar Cummings missed on two scoring chances in the first 13 minutes for Colorado when Mullan stole the ball from newly acquired Shalrie Joseph. Mullan took two strides and fired a low drive past goalkeeper Dan Kennedy's right hand.

Kennedy smothered a long shot by Martin Rivero in the 48th minute. Tony Casio hit the outside of the left post in the 52nd. Conor Casey broke free to get a shot off, but his shot was lofted well over the cross bar in the 63rd minute.

Chivas USA finally got a scoring chance in the 65th minute when a shot was blocked by Colorado defenders. The ball came back to midfielder Ben Zemanski just outside the box, but his shot went wide left of the left post.

''There is no secret been made of the fact that we haven't scored a lot of goals,'' Chivas USA coach Robin Fraser said. ''This group has been resilient and been fighting the battle all year and I have been pleased at the way they have finished games.''

Bowen picked off a turnover to record Chivas USA's first shot on goal in the 71st minute. Bowen's from the slot was easily caught by Pickens.
