Justin Braun converted two defensive lapses into second-half goals, and Chivas USA beat the Kansas City Wizards 2-0 on Saturday night for its first victory in more than two months.

Chivas (4-9-2) earned its first league win since beating New England 4-0 on May 5. Kansas City (3-8-3) lost its third straight and has won just once since starting the season 2-0.

Both of Braun's goals came at the expense of defender Jimmy Conrad.

In the 56th minute, Braun pounced on a bad clearance from Conrad, drove into the penalty area and fired a high shot past keeper Jimmy Nielsen from 17 yards. His second goal, a blast from outside the penalty arc in the 87th minute, also came after he collected a poor clearance attempt.

Two goalkeepers combined to keep the Wizards scoreless.

Dan Kennedy entered in the 36th minute and was credited with the shutout in place of Zach Thornton, who injured his left ankle. The team said Thornton was hurt when he got tangled up with Wizards midfielder Jack Jewsbury early in the match.
