Royals' Eric Hosmer plays hero at Justin Bieber concert in Kansas City

The Kansas City Royals' Eric Hosmer has won three Gold Gloves, but his latest scoop didn't come in the dirt near first base. It happened at a Justin Bieber concert.

Seriously.

Hosmer and some of his teammates attended the concert in Kansas City on Wednesday night --€“ they called it a team-bonding experience -- and they were spotted by the crowd when leaving the show. And after winning the World Series last season, Royals players are arguably more popular than Bieber in Kansas City.

As fans rushed to greet Hosmer and Co., one young girl fell. Fearing the girl might get trampled, Hosmer heroically helped her up.

"I think that happened before we all realized what was going on," Hosmer told The Kansas City Star. "Just helped her up her real quick, just doing what a guy should do. You see someone fall you should help her up."

Added Hosmer: "I definitely didn't except that to happen. I was just there with the boys. I think a lot of people caught wind of us being there. There was a lot of excitement, but (I) definitely didn't expect that (mob scene) to happen."

It's the kind of thing the Royals certainly weren't used to until the past couple of years. And the kind of thing they now actually prepare for in advance. Left fielder Alex Gordon admitted the Royals players strategically sent Hosmer into the crowd first.

"We sent Hos out first, out of the concert," Gordon told The Star. "And then we kind of followed behind him and he took all the heat. He took one for the team."
