Miguel Cabrera close to returning to Tigers' lineup?
When Miguel Cabrera suffered a left calf strain in early July, the original prognosis was that he would miss six to eight weeks. But Miggy could be returning to the Tigers lineup by the end of the team's upcoming road trip.
Detroit will begin a 10-day, eight-game road trip Monday, and manager Brad Ausmus says Miggy will likely be ready to suit up for the Tigers before they return home on Aug. 20.
"It wouldn't shock me if he was playing by the end of the road trip," Ausmus said (via MLive). "Or the beginning of the next homestand."
The Tigers have not yet said when Cabrera will begin a minor-league rehab assignment -- or if he will bypass it altogether.
Cabrera is currently taking batting practice and participated in short running exercises, but has discomfort running long distances. His next step towards re-joining the team will be running the bases and defensive work at first base.
