Mets fans and non-Mets fans flock to watch Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow made his Mets debut today….sort of.

We already wrote about how the Mets’ signing of Tebow may be a win-win marketing move. Well, today started to prove this.

Not only was Tebow trending on Twitter for the majority of the day, but approximately 400 fans and 70 media outlets went to see him in action.

That’s right, on a Monday morning in September, when regular baseball season and a pennant race is still in full-swing, and of course when many are supposed to be at work, 400 fans were at the Mets’ complex in Port St. Lucie to see the former football player.

Tebow jerseys were being sold….and were sold out. Cha-ching for the Wilpons! Just look at this golf-cart full of Tebow jerseys.

Also, on a personal note, I’m not sure how I’m going to react when I see someone walking around Citi Field in a Tebow jersey, especially before the man even makes it to the majors — if he ever makes it to the majors. But, now there’s many, many people that own a Tim Tebow Mets jersey.

Mets spokesman Harold Kaufman did say there is currently no Tebow merchandise being sold at Citi Field, but of course that will probably change at the rate these Tebow jerseys sold out today in Florida. Lucky for all of you, though, you can order Tebow merchandise online at Mets.com!

Tebow worked out with 57 other Mets Minor Leaguers. Hmmm, interesting, I can’t find anything about their jerseys being sold or sold out (insert thinking emoji here so all you readers can get the full affect of that thought).

Despite the fact that today seemed like one big monetary win for the Wilpons, and one big marketing win for the Mets, Tebow did feel good after the practice. He spoke about how he was more excited than nervous, and said the following post practice:

“You want every one of those guys in the locker room and the coaches to know that I’m just going out there to try to perform and get better and learn the system, just like they are. I think when you get to know each other, hopefully that’s what they find out about me. I am here to put in the work.”

It’s good to see Tebow is taking this seriously, and is happy to have been given the opportunity. He did advocate that he is not doing this for attention, and that he is doing it to become a better baseball player.

Well, looks like it’s Tebow Time….instructional league Tebow Time, but still, 400 fans is a decent amount!
